The Wolf on the Hill is a fun little story written by Neil Gaiman. The story is a commentary on what it means to be human. In this particular case, the human character, named Dante, is “turned” into a wolf. However, while being turned, he finds his old self and his place in the pack. He discovers that he is not alone in the pack and that the pack has other members like his mother and his childhood friend, Grim. This is not an easy story to understand, but the translator here is you!
A deer hunter named Qui-Ti arrives at Dante’s village and convinces him to go after the deer. After two days of searching, Dante realizes that the deer is eaten by wolves. Qui-Ti and a friend, Ka-Bee, try to escape. While escaping, Qui-Ti is killed by a wolf who eats him alive. Dante has to get out of the village, but the only way out is through the woods and the lands of Eorzea. Upon reaching the falls, Dante finds himself falling into the water. Fortunately, he is rescued by a player named Urshi.
Not too long after, he meets a young girl named Avangard and their relationship begins to develop as they both become attached to the ‘wild pokemon’. They become fast friends and fight many battles together. Soon after the friendship between Avangard and Dante is threatened when Dante’s animal companion dies. Avangard resolves to carry on the relationship and along with Dante, they travel to a new land, the continent of Thugre. There, they have to defeat various enemies. With a message from his wolf, Dante is able to regain his human form. He is now free from all the problems of the past and can start anew.
