Are You Reading About Full Metal Jacket Quotes?
When I was younger, I used to watch guys on a VH1-style show where they would play a video of every one of the Full Metal Jacket quotes that ever came out of any one of the actors’ mouths. I always thought that it was really funny, but I could never figure out why. It seems kind of odd to just pick up a movie quote out of thin air and then say it out loud. After a while, I guess we just stopped caring what those quotes were or why the characters had them, we just loved the movie and wanted to learn about the actors in it. That’s my theory on the movies of today. I don’t think there’s much of a difference between movies from thirty years ago and today’s movies, except for maybe age, but I just like reading about characters who are just out of my normal frame of reference.
I’m surprised by all the movie quotes that exist today. Of course, there are a lot of great ones, and obviously you are going to be able to take a lot of quotes and turn them into your own jokes. The famous “I love you mom!” is one of my favorites, but after awhile you stop saying that.
We say things, but we have to remember that they are words, words only. There is no way that you can add some kind of narrative to them, no matter how hard you try. If you want to use a movie quote in your own life, that’s fine, but I think that if you are truly looking to push the boundaries, you should be willing to remember that you’re making a joke about something and that your audience should be aware of that fact.
